How To Be a Confident Parent

Are you looking for ways to have more confidence on your parenting journey? Weather it’s navigating your own path strongly, or not allowing others the power to put you down, this episode is for YOU.

Dr. Vanessa shares her views on independence, and extrinsic motivation versus INTRINSIC motivation. Does your child achieve for YOU to validate them, or are they driven by their own desires? Which one do you think leads to long term happiness?

Do you have trouble finding the balance between being kind and being firm? How to set limits and maintain your line without caving with guilt or projecting control. Great content to inspire you to tune up a bit going into this new year!

They also discuss the challenge of not taking on your child’s behavior as a reflection of yourself, or worse, alter your parenting choices to suit the comfort of others….. We’ve all been there! Can you choose not to absorb the judgements of others, and just sit with your OWN truth? Trust us, we get it, it’s HARD! Being non reactive is ongoing work for EVERYONE

Ever wonder what does that need for RESPECT reallyyyy mean? Dr. Vanessa drops a truth bomb, “Respect speaks of a neediness from the adult, for me to behave a certain way so the adult can feel better about themselves.”

About my guest

Dr. Vanessa Lapointe is a mom, registered psychologist, parenting educator, best-selling author, international speaker, and a regularly invited media guest. Founder and director of The Wishing Star Lapointe Developmental Clinic, she has been supporting families and children for almost 20 years, and has previous experience in community mental health and the school system. While navigating the journey of parenting her own two children, including the restructuring of her family through divorce, Dr. Vanessa has been challenged to grow herself up. Rather than hiding behind the glossy façade, she acknowledges how much she is in the muck of it just like everyone else. From this awakened place she journeys along on a path that lands for herself and her family, all of which has profoundly changed her life and is a significant influence on her speaking and practice.
