Authentic Parenting is all about living a life truthful to YOUR values and how that can shine through in your parenting. Anna Seewald has had guests from all around the world sharing their values and cultures. The core of these episodes are learning about each other, celebrating our individual journeys and seeing the similarities that us parents share!
Today’s episode features Emiko Rasmussen who has a podcast, Her Confidence Her Way. Which is dedicated to Japanese working women. Emiko lives in the United States, is married with 2 daughters, ages 9 and 5. Her motto is to focus on what she can control, and embrace the life she gets to live in. – How awesome is that!
Emiko shares about Japan’s cultural expectations, respect, discipline, and deep value of collectivism as a society. She reminisces on her memories of New Year’s celebration in Japan and the independence she started at a young age.
This episode also discusses living far away from family, keeping bonds and deciding which traditions to carry out with your children.
Listen in to hear more about Japan and Emiko’s experience 😊
About my guest
Emiko Rasmussen is a proud working mother who believes that we can have family and career but with lots of help from others! Emiko is passionate about empowering Japanese women to live a purposeful and meaningful work- life they love with confidence. She started a podcast called Her Confidence Her Way which is dedicated to Japanese working women. The core message of the podcast is to remind Japane women that they are enough and they can live their life without limiting themselves.
Emiko is NOT a Pinterest perfect mom at all! Emiko ’s motto is to focus on what she can control and embrace the life that she gets to live in. Emiko was 20 years old when she came to the U.S. as an international student, she faced with language and cultural barriers. As a result, Emiko had played small which limited her self from various opportunities that she could have taken. There were many times that Emiko wanted to raise her hand and share her opinion or say YES to reach her potentials; however, her limiting beliefs, “My English is not good enough” or “I don’t feel confident” prevented from being her true-self and do what she really wanted to do.
Emiko is a wife (married with her husband over 10 years), a mom of two children, a full-time career woman. She has been working in a Higher Education industry for over 10 years and she has 7+ years of a leadership role as well as coaching experience. Emiko also serves as a board member of San Diego Yokohama Sister City Society
