Why Kids Resist and What to Do About It

Authentic Parenting podcast

In episode 234 of the podcast we discuss their RESIST Approach– a flexible framework that encourages parents to welcome their kids’ resistance as they resist conventional discipline practices that perpetuate control and undermine connection.

We discuss how working to RESPECT, EMPATHIZE, SYNCH UP, INNOVATE, SUMMARIZE AND TRUST as often as possible with our kids can raise our family and build our future, one conversation at a time.

The WAY we teach our children is what they ultimately learn.

Conventional wisdom and patriarchal conditioning can so easily lead us to respond to daily challenges with our kids using measures of control.
We lecture, shame, micromanage, yell, isolate, offer rewards or threaten punishments… We often find ourselves behaving in ways that can show our children that it is acceptable to disempower and disrespect someone with less power or privilege.

About my guests

Hannah and Kelty are twins, mothers and co-hosts of the podcast and parenting resource Upbringing. Certified in Simplicity Parenting, Positive Discipline and trained in foundations of the respectful parenting approach, RIE, Hannah & Kelty are leading a movement that empowers parents to grow up alongside their kids for sanity and social change.

They believe that nurturing kids’ inner wisdom and authority — so often expressed via their resistance— can be a brave and beautiful way to raise a generation of activists, empaths, innovators and change-makers!
