I wanted you to start the year with a big dose of inspiration, great reminders and positivity!
Tune in to Ep: 303: How to Rock Your Parenting in 2022 and get a boost of confidence, encouragement and motivation. I have put together short clips from some of your favorite conversations to remind you of what’s important in parenting.
I created this compilation episode so that you can start the new year with renewed energy and intention, a sense of hope and possibility, unshakable confidence that you are a good parent, courage to look within, a fresh perspective to keep your eyes on the big picture, a trust to be guided with your heart, a commitment to become comfortable with your own discomfort and befriend your emotions, willingness to examine your own patterns and shortcomings and of course a strong practice of self- compassion.
You’ll hear from Melisa Bernstein, Ned Johnson, Bill Stixrud, Ellen Gottlieb, Bridgett Miller, Vanessa Lapointe, Howard Glasser, Laura Froyen and Laney- a thirteen year old girl.
I really enjoyed putting this episode together.
I hope you enjoy listening!
Our first clip is from episode 286: How To Talk to Kids with Bill Stixrud and Ned Johnson, authors of two fantastic books: The Self-Driven Child and How to Talk to Kids. How our own anxiety can get in the way of effective parenting, how we can learn to honor autonomy, let go of control and agendas, and act as guides for our kids. Helping kids to decide who they want to be. Please be sure to check out the full episode as if it’s simply wonderful.
Next we have a clip from episode 279: Awakening Greatness in Kids with Howard Glasser. How parenting is a relationship. It’s not a thing we do and if we want to have lasting and meaningful relationships with our kids for years to come we have to invest in our relationship, we have to accept our children fully for who they are, deepen that connection and nurture their heart. This is such a moving clip that I not only teared up during the conversation but when I was putting this episode together.
Here is a short clip from a fantastic conversation with Ellen Gottlieb that I so enjoyed from episode 284: The Hard Truth About Parenting the Conscious Way. This episode is such a treasure trove that I really had a hard time choosing just one clip. It’s so good! In it we talk about how parenting begins with the parent.
We have to do the work ourselves. Do you measure your worth by how your child’s behave? Connection is the pillar of this work, connection to ourselves and to our kids. And as a conscious parent of two adult children she offered reassurance that the conscious way does indeed work.
The next clip is from episode 208: How to Be a Confident Parent with Vanessa Lapointe all about strengthening our relationship with our kids. If you feel doubtful and less confident at times, that you are not a good parent, that you are failing, this is the episode for you. We talk about the distinction between power and force, the importance of finding your north star. and striking the balance between being a very kind and firm parent.
The next clip I want to play is from another excellent episode with Melisa Bernstein, the toy-maker from the famous company Melisa and Doug. It’s episode 275: Don’t Fix Yourself, Accept Yourself. It’s jam packed with valuable insights, powerful stories and uplifting advice, that being a martyr serves no one and has costly effects. That allowing our children to experience their own life, is key for them to grow and feel capable and resilient.
I pulled a short clip from another phenomenal episode with my friend and colleague Bidgett Miller. It’s episode 226: Practicing Conscious Parenting. And it’s one of those feel-good, foundational episodes. If you veer off the path of conscious parenting, or if you are new to it, this honest and important conversation is for you. Packed with so many wise nuggets, great reminders of what it takes to be a conscious parent. When your child is unhappy it’s not your job to fix it. Don’t rub your children off of opportunities to grow, allowing your child to feel the full range of human feelings with your support.
I want to play a clip from an episode I did with my dear friend and colleague, occasional co-host Laura Froyen. It’s episode 238: The Secret to Getting Kids to Listen and Cooperate on getting them to listen and cooperate without damaging their dignity and again, this works begins with us by examining our past traumas and shame stories, learning about ourselves, becoming more self-accepting and practicing self-love. And remember, when we control our kids, we lose our influence. What gets in the way of how you want to parent? What do you bring in from your past? What do you need to heal in order not to pass on to our kids?
I want to conclude with a short clip from episode 298 How to Build Closeness with Your Kids with one of my listeners and her 13 year old daughter. Laney’s advice to parents everywhere is sage and down-to-earth. I absolutely loved talking to her. On the power of deep listening, being available for our kids,

Continue learning and growing. The journey is not an easy one; facing things about yourself you might not like and feeling feelings you have avoided for so long, while raising humans and parenting in challenging times but it’s worth it. Keep going and embrace all parts of it.
It takes courage, and you are a brave human. High five and here is to another year of evolution. May the new year be a year of health, safety, and peace.
